Bournemouth Christmas Market has returned but sellers are worried about future years.

The rise in credit card usage and online shopping are potential threats.

Daisy Pearce reports…

[REP]

It’s a busy Sunday at the Christmas market.

Lights are twinkling, but traders are worried people won’t stop to shop.

The cost-of-living-crisis has made sellers trim their profits.

Society becoming cashless is also a fret for the market people.

Bournemouth’s Christmas market has been thriving since 2017.

This year, thirty retail outlets are open selling lots from gift mugs to winter clothes.

The attraction is bringing not just locals but lots of tourists to the town.

However there are fears that it might not work in the coming times.

[PTC]

In recent years, we have seen a rise in high street deterioration due to online shopping becoming a popular thing.

So this market not only brings a christmas spirit to the town, but brings in tourism as it attracts 1 million people.

[REP]

Empty retail units surround the festive stalls.

According to the Centre for Retail Research, nearly 50 shops per day closed last year.

Sellers think the market helps independent businesses and brings excitement to town.

[Interview]

Despite worries the attraction won’t return, the public seem to be enjoying it for now.

They are all hoping the Bournemouth Christmas Market will make a comeback next year.
