What to do if you need to rehome your pet

According to Amy Ockelford - senior national press officer for the RSPCA, they are seeing more animals coming into their care. She explains: "We are seeing more animals coming into our care - likely as a result of the ongoing impact of the Covid pandemic coupled with the cost of living crisis - and we're also finding that animals are being adopted at a much slower rate which is creating a serious pressure on spaces in rescue centres."

This is leading to a lack of space in rescue centres for people who need to give up their pets. However, for those who have no other choice at the moment, there are options.

Sophie Vye, of Staffie and Stray rescue in Bournemouth, recommends to be on multiple waiting lists for animal shelters, until a space opens up.
